Junior Year Counseling Cohort

This is a school year-long program that brings together 2-4 high school juniors who will work with our college counselor on their college paths. Vicky will guide and lead students through various group and individual discussions, activities, and assessments to help them understand who they are, what they are looking for in a college experience, what they need to do to accomplish that goal and get them ready for the competitive college admissions process. Program will cover all aspects of admissions counseling that a high school junior will need.

WHY COLLEGE COUNSELING IN A COHORT?

Studies find that peer discussion and engagement is a strong motivator for student. They learn from each other and become each other’s cheerleader. Cohort channels this engagement to achieve individual’s goals and objectives. To ensure that cohort will be a good fit for a student, there will be an initial intake consultation.

Cohort will meet as a group on a regular basis and as various program milestones are achieved, there will be one-on-one follow up with the student and family to review the outcomes and recommendations.

WHO IS A GOOD FIT FOR COHORT?

Whether the student is on track to be a school valedictorian and striving to attend competitive school or someone who is still trying to find oneself, this program will be a good fit. What will matter is that the students are invested and interested in a well-developed and mindful program to identifying colleges that will not only fit their academic goals (short and long term) but also a social and emotional approach to connecting to colleges in which they will thrive.

There are some scenarios where this program might not be a good fit – students considering an alternative college path (gap year, community college etc.), aspiring college athletes or performing arts students. Since their needs are different, they may be well served in a more personalized setting.

WHEN AND WHERE WILL THE COHORT MEET?

This cohort will start at the end of September.

Since most high schoolers have a busy schedule, once the cohort comes together, quarterly meeting schedule will be created. Individual follow up meetings will be coordinated with the family. Most of the group meetings will be in-person with the option of online/ in-person follow up meetings.
